Ukraine Outreach

A new day means new news from Ukraine. Amidst the swamp of details about Russia’s latest war crimes, an inkling of hope always remains. We get to hear stories of strangers banding together and miracles happening. I’m blown away by how caring and giving the refugee families are. They have every reason to hate the world and be angry at everyone, yet they invite my team and I into their homes, bake with us and feed us, and still find joy in the smallest things, like going to the park. As cliché as it sounds, it’s a beautiful confirmation that when we choose love over...

Stories from the Field

I hadn’t even noticed her until my friend, Soledad, asked me if I wanted to talk to the woman in the blue. I had joked all morning about how after 2 weeks of not having a person to help me translate, I was READY to go out and share the good news with everyone. So we grabbed Mackenzie and walked over. The conversation came naturally as she was waiting to walk to the bus. She began cheerful, talking about her family and 2 year old grandson, her new marriage, and seeing her kids on the weekends. But, we could see the weight she was carrying. I shared about how the Lord wanted to...

Has Gen Z Forgotten God?

During the month of June, I’ve had the privilege of being a part of three Short-Term Domestic Mission Trips. I didn’t know exactly what to expect because I have never been on an Adventure in Missions trip before. What I saw on these trips has given me a new and deep hope in God’s unstoppable work to reach the lost, and to raise up, for himself, the next generation of missionaries who will carry the Good News of Jesus to the ends of the earths, and fulfill the great commission. The most powerful experience I had was in Chicago. On this three day mission trip, roughly 50...

Belief in the Unbelievable

One thing I have learned is that miracles are nothing in the presence of unbelief.   The first day we got to Guatemala, I witnessed a miracle. I’ve always leaned more towards the side of skepticism, especially when it comes to spiritual miracles. I could hear a thousand stories of miracles happening and never truly believed in any of them. They were just amazing and inspiring stories to me, but when it came to reality, I couldn’t grasp it.  That spirit of skepticism has oozed into my relationship with God and the Bible. My scientific mentality made me wrestle with...

I’m Sick of Pretending: Why I Am Done Playing Christian

I’ve officially been on the race for 242 days. That’s nine months. You would think that by this time I would have it together—that I would be a rock. I’ve spent countless nights on the floor. I’ve taken many an ice cold shower, and sometimes gone weeks with no shower at all. I’ve eaten bugs, blood, and baby chickens still in the egg (all these of course local delicacies.) I’ve dug ditches, planted fields, taught English, painted walls, and shared the gospel. I’ve even “preached” a sermon or...

Free from a witch doctor’s bondage

I don’t know exactly what we expected walking into his home, but I know that it wasn’t what we found. The tent seemed to exhale as we opened its door, and it expelled a torrent of heat. I could not begin to imagine staying inside these tarpaulin walls all day as sweat instantly formed against my skin; yet, this is Evansbord’s life everyday. Evansbord was taken to a witch doctor at two months old. Before me was the result of this choice by his parents. He was lying on the tent floor, knees to his chest, feet crossed flat against himself; he has spent 15 years in this...
